Teya Sepinuck

Founder & Artistic Director

Teya SepinukTeya Sepinuck, Founder and Artistic Director, developed the 'Theater of Witness' process, in 1986 as a way of speaking to the human condition and giving voice to those who are marginalized in society. Since incorporating TOVA in 1991, Teya has devoted herself to creating original artistic pieces that bridge the borders of the artistic, spiritual, social, political and educational. A mother, former dancer and long-time mediator, Teya has a Master's degree in Counseling and Human Relations. She is a former faculty member of Swarthmore College has been a Rostered Artist in Education with Pennsylvania Council of the Arts and recipient of the Council's Interdisciplinary Fellowship. Teya was awarded a Bronze Apple Award for the video, Under Our Skin. She also received awards from Women's Way and the Mayor's Commission on Women as well as the Human Rights Award in Arts and Culture from the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission.

Teya is currently in Derry Northern Ireland from January 2009-December 2010. In collaboration with The Playhouse and Holywell Trust, she is creating Theater of Witness with those affected by years of violence. This initiative has been funded by a Peace 111 Grant from The European Union. A new website at www.theaterofwitness.org will be developed soon.
